The annual National Information Day: “Open Science, Open Data and Cloud Computing” is being held for the 17th time. The event is part of the 16th International Conference “Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage-DiPP2026”, 24-27 September 2026, Burgas, Bulgaria. The National Information Day presents the development of open science in Bulgaria, including open access to scientific publications and data, management and sharing of scientific information, FAIR principles, and the development of the national infrastructure and links with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
During the session, held on 25 September 2026, Open Science new developments in Bulgaria in 2026 were presented, as well as reports on open research data, digital libraries, responsible research ecosystem, citizen science, the results of the National Doctoral School on Open Science and the role of artificial intelligence in open science.
In the report of Prof. Aneta Karaivanova, coordinator of the NCVRP, the attention was drown to the importance of infrastructure and services for the Open Science developments, with a focus on benchmarking and optimization of applications running on heterogeneous computing systems – environments combining different types of computing resources, such as CPU and GPU. Thus, the report connects the principles of open science with high-performance computing infrastructure and the effective use of modern resources for scientific research.
