On the holiday of education and culture in Bulgaria on May 24, the awards for significant contribution to the field of science “Pythagoras” were presented. The official ceremony was broadcast on the Bulgarian National Television (BNT1). For the 12th time, the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria presents awards to scientists, research teams and organizations for achievements in the field of science and technology, determined by an authoritative jury composed of previous winners of the award. Guests of the ceremony are Ms. Maria Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Mr. Krassimir Valchev, Minister of Education and Science in Bulgaria.
Our colleague, Prof. Emanouil Atanassov, the head of the Department of HPC systems, networks and algorithms at IICT-BAS, was awarded “Pythagoras” in the category “Supercomputing applications and Big Data analysis”. This is his second scientific award. In 2004 he received a “John Atanassoff” honorary diploma from the President of Bulgaria for outstanding contribution in the field of information technology.
